I want to start streaming but where do I start? What gear do I need? How much do I spend?
What are the “pros” using? All these questions will be answered in our short write up below! including links; tiers and even a small start up guide on how you can get a professional startup on a budget! without needing the new and improved products. In this article we will talking about the best setup gear to compliment your new streaming career as well! even if its a hobby, taking these things seriously leads to many unexpected routes which may just take off.
The basic equipment required for Streaming.
What is required for streaming? We have noted down the best ways to make a perfect stream; these are bullet pointed to make it easy for you to understand.
– A decent pc – A webcam (Preferably 1080p) – Good Audio ( Microphone and a good headset) – Software to record / Create – 2 monitors (best experience) – A comfy chair! – Good background music (Sets the mood!)
A beast of a PC!
A good computer not only means you get to play the best of the best games! but it also means it can reward you with silky smooth pc recordings/gameplay highlights to upload towards your social media; be that Twitch.tv or YouTube!
Ideally You would want a multi core processor (Ryzen 7 or Ryzen 9 – Unless you have a separate pc which we talk about here – *link here* ) Currently Rawxia uses a Ryzen 9 – this ensures a multi workload is stress free. Now the Ryzen 9 is expensive however if money isn’t an issue we would highly recommend this for a single PC setup (basically streaming on one pc while also streaming on said pc)
Some other alternatives would be the Ryzen 7 series Intel I7 series Intel I9 series
We also recommend a decent graphics card! these allow you to hit those good frame rates to not only get you an advantage in games but also give your audience the best experience possible. Rawxia’s personal recommendation would be a 1080ti as its the best price to performance option at this very moment of writing this article. some other great mentions would be
Nvidia Line up RTX 2060 – 2070s – 2080ti / RTX 3060TI – 3070 – 3080 – 3090
AMD Line up RX590 – 5700XT – 6700XT – 6800XT – 6900XT
What software do I use?
The best software to use regardless to if you have no experience – 10 years experience is OBS (Streamlabs preferably) We are no way affiliated with Streamlabs however the ease of access and how quickly it sets up your stream makes it a clear winner for us when it comes to being the right companion for you. It includes a nice interface that’s easy to access; a nice chat panel to see how many viewers and chatters are watching you and finally it uses a login system designed for the user to login to the site of there choice to easily get there stream up and running. Link below The Best Free Live Streaming Software on Windows and Mac | Streamlabs
Upgrade your disk drive to SSD to boost app open times
SSD (Solid State Drives) are faster, more reliable and much more efficient than normal hard drives (HDD) Not only do we recommend these for faster day to day use but this allows for faster load times in games and less dropped frames during stream (if you are recording while streaming) all while not breaking the bank.
We also love SSDs due to its fast nature and because of how cheap they currently are! for £100 you can snatch up a pretty good deal with one of the most reliable and quickest NVME drives on the market that Rawxia currently recommends. Link below
Careful Overclocking can increase FPS whilst streaming
The CPU is overclocked when its clock rate (measured in GHz) is higher than the manufacturer value. This, of course, demands further cooling (Water cooling vs Air cooling is a tpugh decision; however we love air cooling due to its reliable nature)
Moreover, not all mainboards or processors allow for boosting. Intel x86 types, for example, almost invariably have a fixed clock frequency. On the other hand, AMD includes overclocking as kind of a common feature. So if you must have this feature, please research on your motherboard and CPU and see if these can be overclocked. (We do not suggest you over clock and take no responsibility for your actions)
It used to be quite dangerous if you didn’t pay attention during overclocking and didn’t pay attention to voltages, However nowadays, the processors core safety features usually avoid serious harm if you make a mistake. Under the worst scenario, the machine will crash to avoid overheating and reset your bios settings to standard.
Gaming mice in streaming will improve gameplay and comfort during streaming
A good gaming mouse is key for a successful stream setup; you may be asking why? This is because not only does a gaming mouse provide precision that quickly makes your gaming 10 times more responsive and 90% likely to make you a better player; but it means you can stream multiple hours without any long term issues with your hands. We would recommened the cheap logitech ergonomic designs for the balance of great performance; cheap bang for buck, reliability and most importantly to keep you safe hours on end.
some good alternatives Rawxia loves to recommend would be the SteelSeries mouses or shoot straight for being the best with the Logitech GPRO wireless.
Gaming keyboards with macros will enable to perform actions during streaming
A reason we didn’t suggest a StreamDeck above is because this is extra cost that would eat away at your wallet; that’s why we asked many streamers an easy budget way to swap scenes on the fly without losing the fight on your game! Macros can be setup in the software of our choice (OBS for example) to switch between scenes.
Get a good mechanical gaming keyboard – not only does this provide quick response times but it also means macros and durability are not of a concern. (also lighting adds to aesthetics – who doesn’t love a sutle orange glow?)
Some great shouts for those on a budget are looking for keyboards from major brands (Logitech – Razer – Dell) that are mechanical and made for gamers! these also come with macros which you can setup in the software which comes with each keyboard. A good brand also comes with good warranty; just incase and keeping your mind just on the game!
Gaming headsets for streams
With built-in stereo and surround sound, a gaming headset not only makes it simpler to interact alongside friends, but it also makes it simpler to locate enemies in the game. This is a major benefit, particularly in shooters and other action games.
Here are a few awesome headsets that Rawxia loves;
Gaming monitors
Keeping an eye on everything The meaning and purpose of a gaming monitor is not quite as easy to understand as the purpose of gaming mice, gaming headsets or gaming keyboards. But just like the products mentioned above, the gaming monitor also contributes to the perfect gaming experience. It has much lower response times, faster refresh rates and a betrer contrast ratio to optimize the colours of the game. Here is a small selection of good gaming monitors for you:
Webcams for streamers Making a visual impression For most streamers, the webcam is an important device for communicating emotions to viewers. Because body language says much more than the spoken word alone could say. In our article “The best webcams for streaming in comparison” we discuss this topic in more detail. We have selected some products for you that might be especially interesting for streamers. You can have a look at them right here on Amazon:
Microphones for streamers Setting the tone For most gamers the microphone on their headset is enough, but not for streamers: Today’s viewers are very spoiled when it comes to sound quality. It is recommended to think about buying a suitable microphone to pamper the audience. In our article The best streaming microphones in comparison we deal with this topic in detail. Here we would like to introduce you four products, which we have selected for you on Amazon.
Mixers & Interfaces Mixing sound for streamers USB microphones that can be directly connected to the PC are extremely convenient. Unfortunately, most of them have a very high inherent sound level. The alternative would be a professional XLR microphone for which there is usually no port on a commercial computer. For this reason (and to get the last bit of quality out of your microphone) the purchase of a mixer or audio interface is a good investment. In our article on this topic, we present some particularly suitable devices. Here you can also have a look at them on Amazon:
Green screens for streamers A professional look for your facecam With the help of a green screen you can give your stream an additional, professional touch. The color of the screen is isolated and then made transparent so that the streamer seems to float over the game. In our article The best green screens in comparison we deal with different greenscreen types and their use in detail. Here are some of the presented products:
Gaming equipment Perfecting your gaming experience There are many different types of equipment that can make gaming easier. You can find anything from gaming chairs and VR headsets to mouse bungees.
